Middle Fork Feather River Headwaters

Made a priority landscape in 2022

Rich in biodiversity and natural features like springs, fens and aspen groves, the Middle Fork Feather River watershed supports one of the most abundant and diverse populations of wildlife in the Sierra. This includes mammals rarely found in other parts of the Sierra, like gray wolf, Rocky Mountain elk and pronghorn, as well as large populations of mammals that exist throughout the Northern Sierra such as black bear, mule deer, mountain lion, coyote and bobcat. For such wildlife, the Middle Fork Feather River Headwaters’ valleys, rivers and streams provide safe passage across roadways, from one habitat area to another. With extensive subdivision of land occurring in the area and high demand for new housing, the focus of NSP’s conservation work here is to maintain these vital corridors, facilitating the free and safe movement of wildlife across this part of the Sierra.
