Elk Return to the Northern Sierra
California is the only place in the United States that is home to all extant North American elk subspecies—Tule, Roosevelt, and Rocky Mountain elk. In recent years, Rocky Mountain elk, once considered non-native to California, have been slowly expanding their range southward from northeastern California into the Northern Sierra Nevada.

On December 7th, the Feather River Land Trust (FRLT), The Nature Conservancy and Northern Sierra Partnership threw open the doors of the new Sierra Valley Preserve Nature Center. In the first hours we were open, we welcomed over 500 guests from communities around the region.
