The final step in many of our projects is to create facilities that will allow the public to access and enjoy our newly protected lands.  Facilities include trailheads, trails, welcome kiosks, restrooms, overlooks and interpretive signage, but do not stop there.  At Independence Lake, The Nature Conservancy and the Truckee Donner Land Trust maintain a fleet of kayaks so the public can enjoy the lake without bringing their own boats and risking the unwanted introduction of aquatic invasive species into the lake. At Frog Lake, the Truckee Donner Land Trust, with support from The Nature Conservancy and NSP, installed huts to provide overnight lodging for backcountry skiers.  And at the Sierra Valley Preserve, the Feather River Land Trust and The Nature Conservancy are teaming up to create an interpretive center to introduce visitors to the extraordinary natural diversity of Sierra Valley.

The Partnership has also been proud to support the Feather River Land Trust’s nationally acclaimed Learning Landscapes, an outdoor education program that serves every school in the upper headwaters of the Feather River. The goal: to instill in the next generation a deep appreciation of the natural world that sustains us all. Thanks to FRLT’s Learning Landscapes initiative, teachers in the Upper Feather River watershed are already bringing their students outside two to three times more often, nurturing a culture of care and stewardship that students will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
